Nyurmók 2024
Nyurmók creates a mythology all of it’s own. Gestures of perfection and the imperfect clash and frolic, suggesting the infinity factor of the subject to which the work pays homage.
Nyurmók is the world’s first and only “microtonal shrine”. The concept of microtonality ventures idealistically, to embody the entire spectrum of audible sound, and as an individualistic reorganization, beyond the constraints of standard 12-toned western systems, lays way onto new musical horizons.
The works of Nathaniel Hale Garnon have commonly been labelled as “organic” and “maximalistic”; the installation Nyurmók puts both characterizations on full display.
The tempering, molding and taming of metals, once cold-defined, are now full of growth, and seething in the ambiguity between human form and nature.
The California Redwood used in the work retains its essence, but is manipulated just enough for the observer to “meet a whole new creature”. Nyurmók’s fundamental themes, the foundational concepts of the piece, are represented as primal petroglyph-like inflections. The work’s overall form, feeling and variations phrase the vastness of the frequency spectrum that it odes to.
